Plockton was the location for
the successful BBC drama series 'Hamish Macbeth'. Three
series were shot between 1995 and 1997 and 'Hamish'
is still being shown throughout the world.
Robert Carlyle stars as the laid-back copper in the
tiny coastal village of Lochdubh in the Scottish Highlands,
far removed from his former city beat. Normal policing
methods don't apply here and Hamish does things his
own way.
It is no secret that I inspired the episode 'In
Search of Rose' (Series 2), where a local whale
trip skipper resorts to plastic whales. There were rumours
about that I was using dummy seals, and this went as
far as to get into the local press. You can find the
West Highland Free Press article here.
I was investigated by Trading Standards officials, which
amused me no end.
The Zenith production team saw this article in the
Leisure Marine window and the story-line was born. They
sent me a letter of confirmation, which is here.
I appeared in some episodes, as a bit player,
as did many in the village. Come on the seal trip and
I'll tell you about the locations and where they were
filmed.
